Where we practise
Our yoga happens outdoors, in an open-air shala facing the sea. It isn't a studio. There are no walls between your mat and the water, and the sound you hear between cues is the waves.
We're at kilometre 8.5 on Tulum Beach Road (Carretera Tulum-Boca Paila), in the hotel zone, with direct access to the beach. Classes are timed around the light: some as the sun drops behind the jungle, some at sunset. The weekly calendar tells you which.
What's on through the week
Yoga and Pilates run on a weekly calendar, and Thursday morning belongs to the Work Out Club. Here's how a week looks at our place:
| Day | What we run | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Sunday | Yoga and Pilates | Times change week to week. Check the weekly calendar or ask us on WhatsApp. |
| Thursday, 8am | Work Out Club | A beachfront workout class. The activity is different every week. |
| Wednesday, all day | Volleyball Club | 2-for-1 classic cocktails while it runs. |
| Weekends | UMi Beach Day | Live DJ set on the sand. Livelier than the weekdays. |
The beach is calm during the week and gets busier at the weekend. If you want your practice quiet, pick a weekday class.
Who can join
Anyone can join. All levels are welcome, from your first class to a daily practice, and our teachers adjust to what your body needs that day.
You don't have to be staying with us. Our classes are open to people visiting the beach club as well as to suite guests. Book a spot on WhatsApp at +52 984 320 0701 so we can hold your mat.
The Thursday Work Out Club
Every Thursday at 8am we host a workout class on the beach. We change the format each week, so it's worth asking what's planned when you book. It's early enough to beat the midday heat, and you're done in time for breakfast.
If you're staying in one of our suites, breakfast is included and served at our restaurant from 8am. Mexican cooking with international touches, plenty of fresh fruit and seafood later in the day.
Massage after class
We do massage in house, by appointment. Each therapist builds the treatment around what you ask for. On the menu:
- Deep tissue: for tight shoulders and legs after a few days of walking and swimming.
- Mud therapy and clay rituals: slower treatments using earth-based wraps.
- Japanese techniques: a nod to our name. Umi means sea in Japanese.
- Neurosedative therapy: for when you mostly want to switch off.
Massage is open to everyone, not just suite guests, and needs a reservation. Message the front desk on WhatsApp at +52 984 320 0701.
Making a day of it
Class in the morning, then the beach club. The beach club is open every day from 11am to 7pm. There's no minimum spend and towel service is included, so you can stay on the sand after your session without committing to a set menu. Lunch comes from the same kitchen as our restaurant: ceviches, aguachiles, tacos, grilled octopus. Menu prices are in Mexican pesos.
A Thursday that works well for a lot of people: Work Out Club at 8am, a swim, a massage before lunch, then the afternoon at the beach club until 7pm.
If you're planning a retreat
We host yoga retreats and private group getaways as well as weekly classes. For a group, write to weddings@umitulum.com and tell us your dates, group size and what kind of practice you want. We'll put together the classes, food and rooms.
Getting here
We're 30 to 40 minutes from Tulum International Airport, and our team can arrange a private transfer to the door. Cancun International Airport is about two hours by car. Driving in for a class? Parking is free.
